Our resident music writer, Michael Reckstin, wants you to start off the new month with a bang. Click to see his top five song choices for our April playlist.
1.) Azealia Banks – “F*ck Up the Fun”
The foul-mouthed “212” Harlem rapper presents her latest single, “F*ck Up the Fun,” produced by Major Lazer front man, Diplo. The song’s fast-paced snare drum beat is best paired with Banks’ spitfire rapping. Hopefully you’ve got enough sense to infer from the title of the song that this is NSFW.
2.) Iggy Azalea feat. T.I. – “Murda Bizness”
From Azealia to Azalea, the only female featured on XXL’s 2012 Freshman Cyphers proves she’s a threat not only to the female rappers in the game, but to the boys as well. The song features T.I., who’s taken Azalea under his wing in working with her on her debut album.
3.) Jai Paul – “Jasmine”
The second offering from elusive British singer/producer Jai Paul does not disappoint. “Jasmine” serves as a follow-up to his much-hyped demo single “BTSTU”. Consider this lush-vocal track as a gift from Paul, seeing as the last time his single surfaced was two years ago.
4.) Dirty Projectors – “Gun Has No Trigger”
“Gun Has No Trigger” is the first offering off the Dirty Projectors’ forthcoming album entitled Swing Lo Magellan. The song has barely any instrumentation, which highlights the harmonies presented by the group. The song reaches a climax and explodes vocally each time the title of the song is sung.
5.) Miguel – “Arch n Point”
The song, off R&B singer Miguel’s EP entitled Art Dealer Chic Vol. 2, instructs, “Arch your back and point your toes”. We’re hearing a bit of “Sure Thing” echoed in this song and we like it.
